Handmade Number 8 Turquoise Jewelry
Here we have a Number 8 Turquoise pendant that was handmade by E. Bahe. Bahe is a Navajo jeweler from New Mexico and stamped his name on the back of this piece. This pendant has a Number 8 Turquoise stone that has light blue coloring and brown matrix. Number 8 is known for this intricate brown matrix and I think it gives the stone a lot of character. The mine closed in the 1970's and it is now quite difficult to find this material. In fact, Number 8 Turquoise used to be one of our most popular types but no longer is because we are just unable to find enough quality pieces. It is hard to tell from the picture but the stone is rounded and sticks out from the silver somewhat. Bahe added a bit of detail to the sterling silver that gives this pendant a nice look. This pendant is just over one inch tall (not including the bail) and about 3/4" wide and includes its own 18" sterling silver chain.
If you like the look of Number 8 Turquoise, don't wait to get yourself a piece. Unfortunately, I am afraid that it is only going to become more difficult to find. A sad fate for such classic American turquoise.
