This New Lander Ring by Gary Glandon is a handcrafted sterling silver piece made at Stagecoach that highlights the natural character of one very distinctive stone. While often referred to as “New Lander Turquoise,” New Lander is actually not true turquoise at all. It is a rare material mined in Nevada that is typically classified as a form of chalcosiderite or a closely related mineral. Because of its appearance and the mine it comes from, it is frequently grouped with turquoise in Southwestern jewelry.
New Lander is known for its unusual color combinations and web-like patterns, and this stone shows that character beautifully. The cabochon features layered shades of brown ranging from light caramel tones to darker earthy hues, along with lighter cream-colored areas that create strong natural contrast. The result is a stone that almost looks like a landscape painting, with organic patterns that make the ring completely one of a kind. We have seen other New Lander stones that look completely different than this, such as some that are deep green and black. This shows the great variety this stone can be found in.
Gary set the stone in sterling silver with a hand-textured border surrounding the bezel, adding detail without overwhelming the natural look of the material. On each side of the ring, he added a small sunburst design that gives the piece a subtle Western influence while keeping the overall style clean and wearable.
The focus of this ring is entirely on the uniqueness of the stone. New Lander material is prized because no two pieces look alike, and collectors are often drawn to its uncommon coloring and rarity compared to traditional turquoise.
The combination of the unusual Nevada stone, handcrafted sterling silver setting, and understated Southwestern details gives this ring a distinctive look that stands apart from more traditional turquoise jewelry.
