A Sculptural Sinai Turquoise Ring Built by Hand

This statement ring by Gary Glandon centers on a long oval of Egyptian turquoise sourced directly from a miner in the Sinai Peninsula. The stone combines vivid blue color with brown spiderweb matrix. Its varied coloring gives the turquoise depth and makes the pattern easy to appreciate from a distance.

The ring is called “Orbit” because curved sterling silver elements sweep around the turquoise like paths circling a central body. Rounded silver accents at the top and bottom complete the effect and give the setting a balanced shape.

Each of the small silver elements surrounding the stone was cut, positioned, and soldered individually. This construction requires considerably more time and effort than a simple bezel setting, and it gives the ring its dimensional, sculptural appearance.

Someone wearing this ring may appreciate how the bright turquoise stands out against the darkened areas of the sterling silver. Its elongated shape makes a strong statement on the hand, while the open curves around the stone keep the setting from looking overly heavy. It is a good choice for someone drawn to bold turquoise, visible matrix, and silverwork that is clearly made by hand.

Gary made the ring in the jewelry workshop at Stagecoach. Once it is ordered, he will size it in our store to fit its new owner. Simply provide the desired ring size when ordering.
