Sinai Egyptian Turquoise with Thousands of Years of History

Gary Glandon handmade these earrings with Egyptian turquoise obtained directly from a miner in the Sinai Peninsula. The square stones are turned on point and display vivid blue color with a dense web of dark matrix. Each stone has its own pattern, but the pair is well matched in color and overall appearance.

Turquoise has been mined in Sinai for thousands of years. Ancient Egyptians sent royal mining expeditions into the region and used its turquoise in jewelry, amulets, and ceremonial inlay. The stones in these earrings come from that same historic turquoise-producing region.

Gary set each stone in sterling silver and suspended a narrow hoop beneath it. Evenly spaced line details give the hoops texture and catch the light as the earrings move. Sterling silver posts on the back hold the turquoise sections securely against the ear.

The earrings were made in the jewelry workshop at Stagecoach, where Gary has been creating sterling silver and turquoise jewelry for more than 30 years.
