Handmade at Stagecoach with Rarely Seen Kingman Turquoise

Gary Glandon made these Kingman turquoise earrings by hand in the jewelry workshop at Stagecoach. The long rectangular stones have bright blue color broken by pale blue areas and dark, sweeping matrix. Their patterns complement one another without being identical, giving the pair plenty of character.

The Kingman Mine produces turquoise in a wide range of colors, patterns, and grades. According to our stone dealer, this rarely seen material is the same type of Kingman turquoise reported to have been selected for certain Rolex stone watch dials. As you might imagine, Rolex is highly particular about the quality and appearance of the turquoise used in their watches. This is the only time we have had the opportunity to offer this material.

Each stone is bezel-set in sterling silver and surrounded by a hand-notched border. Four small silver balls finish the bottom of each earring, while sterling silver French hooks allow them to move freely when worn. The darkened details around the settings bring out the handwork and provide contrast against the polished silver.

Gary has been making jewelry for more than 30 years, using silversmithing techniques he originally learned from Native American artisans. His jewelry is made here at Stagecoach, in the workshop at the back of our store.
