A Long-Awaited Return of Gary’s Favorite Nevada Turquoise

This cuff bracelet features a high-quality Royston turquoise stone Gary selected from a small parcel that became available this year. The elongated stone has a soft aqua-blue base with deeper turquoise areas and touches of green. Fine golden-brown matrix runs through portions of the stone, adding warmth and definition without covering its color.

Royston turquoise comes from the Royston mining district near Tonopah, Nevada, an area with a recorded mining history dating to the early 1900s. The turquoise from this district can range from pale blue to deeper blue and blue-green, often with brown or golden matrix. That broad color range has made Royston a favorite among turquoise collectors and jewelry makers.

It has also been Gary’s favorite turquoise for many years. We once carried considerably more Royston, but recently the material available to us has lacked the color and quality we look for. Gary has been slowly using his small collection for the last ten or more years. This year, our stone dealer offered a small group of beautiful Royston that reminded us of the material Gary used in the past. We purchased what we could, and this stone was part of that offering. We were told it was a one-time parcel and that more of this quality is not expected. It was an exciting find for us because of how much we love Royston turquoise.

Gary framed the turquoise with sterling silver panels featuring radiating designs. Darkened recesses bring out each line, while the polished silver catches the light around the stone. These outward-spreading details inspired the name “Radiance.” A double-rail cuff supports the centerpiece while leaving the bracelet open and comfortable around the wrist.

The turquoise centerpiece measures approximately 1 5/8 inches tall and 1 inch wide. Viewed from the side, the cuff measures approximately 2 1/4 inches across at its widest point and has a 1 1/8-inch opening. The fit can be adjusted slightly to suit the wearer’s wrist.

The bracelet was handmade by Gary in the jewelry workshop at Stagecoach.
