This one-of-a-kind necklace was handcrafted by Bora, an artist originally from Turkey whose work often reflects his Turkish roots. The design combines Persian turquoise with both oxidized and polished sterling silver, creating a piece with vast contrast.
The large teardrop-shaped Persian turquoise is the centerpiece. It has bright blue color mixed with tan, brown, and darker natural matrix, giving the stone plenty of character. Bora framed it in textured sterling silver without taking away from the stone’s natural shape or pattern.
Above the turquoise is a small oxidized sterling silver figure hanging from the chain and hoisting the stone with one hand. This unusual detail gives the necklace its name, The Turquoise Keeper, and makes the pendant feel more like a small piece of sculpture than a traditional stone setting. The darkened silver brings out the texture of the figure and creates a strong contrast with the brighter silver around the turquoise.
The chain is just as interesting as the pendant. Dark oxidized links are broken up by small polished sterling silver sections, creating contrast and giving this added interest throughout the necklace. So much of the time chains are basic with little to no thought to the overall design. Bora gave this necklace a fancy chain that adds to the overall appeal. That mix of darkened and bright silver helps tie the whole design together.
This is a great piece for someone who likes jewelry that is a little unexpected. It is bold enough to stand out, but still easy to wear with casual or dressier outfits. It's small sculpture-like figure is sure to draw attention.
